20 printable activities (2 to a page for quick printing and set up). Print and store in a pencil box with a pencil or several pencils for center activities. Students place a tripod grip on a pencil, and then use their fingers with isolated finger movement, to color the animals. First they start on the circles to practice pressure graduation. They practice coloring dark and light. Then they color the picture below. Grasp training sheets included in the file.. Have you ever noticed how some students put too much or too little pressure with a pencil? The correct pressure, is very minimal pressure within grasp, and a medium pressure towards the paper. That means, that when a student holds a pencil, an instructor should be able to easily grasp the pencil and pull it out of the students hand, with very minimal pressure. Then the pressure downwards towards the paper needs to be dark enough to see, but light enough that pencils do not break, or the lines are too heavy. This shading power activity teaches students to differentiate their pressure they color. It promotes isolated finger movement and practices coloring.. Ultimately, it promotes students printing and writing letters, using dynamic control of a pencil.
TIP grip training sheets are included, if you have students who need to develop a tripod grasp. Particularly look at the last joint of the thumb – it should be bending and pointing (flexing and extending) to move the pencil as the students do these coloring power warm ups. Teach students to move their fingers, not the paper, to turn and color. Short, quick activities to keep students attention. You can also look at the TIP grip warm-ups video on TPT – TIP grip video to show you how to use the TIP grip. Comes with some free mini-warm ups you can use.
This activity also comes with pencil box labels for the top, sides, and inside cover of the pencil boxes.
